About 600 Hinsdale customers still without power as of Wednesday, July 29, got unwelcome news when they checked ComEd's outage portal: a restoration estimate of Friday, July 31. Village President Greg Hart says that date means nothing.

"ComEd has confirmed to me that the Friday, July 31 estimate currently appearing to some online is a generic placeholder and is not specific to Hinsdale's remaining outages," Hart wrote on his personal X account Wednesday, July 29.

The clarification addresses confusion among customers who saw the date in ComEd's portal without context. Hart said he has pressed ComEd to keep Hinsdale's remaining outages a top priority and will continue pressing for updates until every customer is restored.

Where things stand

The 600 customers still dark represent a significant improvement from the roughly 1,200 who lost power when severe storms hit Monday, July 27. By Tuesday evening, July 28, ComEd had assigned or dispatched crews to about 90% of remaining Hinsdale outages, with 80–90% of those expected back online by Wednesday morning. As we reported July 29, Hart had said most homes would have power back by then.

That timeline was not fully met. The 600 still without service Wednesday morning shows restoration is running behind the earlier estimate.

Storm damage beyond the outages

The Monday storm did more than knock out power. Hail damaged Hinsdale police cars and the Hinsdale Food Pantry, according to Patch. Key municipal buildings experienced flooding. Utility wires came down at nine locations across the village.

The village deployed two woodchippers Tuesday, July 28, one on the north side and one on the south side, to clear downed trees from streets and yards. No branch pickup dates have been announced. Residents should check villageofhinsdale.org for debris collection updates.

This is the second major storm outage in Hinsdale in less than a month. A Friday, July 3 storm left about 800 ComEd customers without power, though 94% of service was restored by Saturday afternoon, ahead of the village's Fourth of July parade.
