Hinsdale South's boys soccer season ended Monday, Oct. 26, with a 6-0 loss to top-seeded Lemont in a Class 2A sectional semifinal at Jackman Field.
The fourth-seeded Hornets finished 12-10-1. Lemont improved to 15-2-3.
Lemont senior midfielder Joey Francis came off the bench to score twice, as first reported by the Chicago Tribune. Francis opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a shot from 15 yards to give Lemont a 1-0 lead. He celebrated his second goal with a back flip.
"The adrenaline was racing," Francis told the Tribune. "I scored my first playoff goal earlier in the game, then I get a second one? It was amazing."
Lemont poured in five goals in the second half. Gabriel Zarycki, Max Plewa, John Robbins and Andrew Guzy also scored for the top seed. Goalkeeper Benjamin Pokorny made four saves to complete the shutout, with Plewa anchoring the back line.
Sava Nikolic had two shots on goal for Hinsdale South. The Hornets entered the playoffs as a fourth seed and advanced to the sectional round before running into a Lemont squad that had lost just twice all year.
The lopsided margin reflected the gap between the two teams' seasons. Hinsdale South's record hovered near .500, while Lemont carried one of the area's strongest marks into the postseason.
Shaw Local also reported the final score, confirming Lemont's 15-2-3 record after the win.
Lemont advances to the sectional final against host Chicago U-High, which entered at 17-0-2. That game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30.
