Sergeant Glomb is retiring from the Darien Police Department after 25 years, the department announced Oct. 22.

Glomb, identified in the announcement as badge No. 332, was hired on Sept. 27, 2001. Over his quarter-century career, he served in patrol, investigations, juvenile services, crisis intervention and as a school resource officer and evidence technician, according to the department's announcement.

He also served on the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force. The department said he contributed to investigations involving violent crime, drug trafficking and criminal organizations during his career.

That work earned him commendations from the Chicago Crime Commission, Cook County Crime Stoppers and other law enforcement organizations, the department said. The announcement did not name specific cases or dates for the awards.

Glomb was promoted to sergeant in September 2025, roughly a year before his retirement. The department did not release his first name or his effective retirement date in the announcement. The unsigned departmental statement thanked Glomb for his dedication and wished him and his family well.

Separately, the department promoted another veteran officer this fall. Jeff Simek, hired on Sept. 25, 2002, was promoted to sergeant effective Aug. 22, 2026. Simek brings nearly 24 years of experience to the role. He spent six years as a detective and worked with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Felony Investigative Assistance Team and the MERIT Major Crimes and Digital Forensics units.

Darien's police department has pointed to public safety as a strength. In its 2026 State of the City report, the city said its crime rate remains below state and national averages. The city also noted it added a full-time social worker to work alongside first responders. That social worker has received more than 500 referrals and worked with more than 400 individuals and families, according to the report.

Simek's promotion took effect two months before Glomb's retirement was announced.
