Hinsdale Village President Greg Hart received the Mayor of the Year award from the United Hellenic Voters of America at the group's awards gala Sunday, Oct. 25, in Des Plaines.
The national, nonpartisan civic organization, founded in 1974 with roots in the Chicago metropolitan area, cited Hart's focus on building relationships across political and jurisdictional lines, Patch reported. The group said it recognized Hart for work in government modernization, public health and economic development.
Since taking office in 2025, Hart has pushed to modernize village services, digitize government processes and make local government more accessible, according to a news release cited by Patch. He has also backed efforts to attract investment, strengthen Hinsdale's commercial districts and diversify the village's sales tax base, the release said.
"Greg Hart represents the kind of leadership our organization believes in, bringing people together, putting community interests ahead of politics and finding practical solutions that make a difference," Kiki Whitehead, national chair of the United Hellenic Voters of America, said in the release.
The award is national in scope. The organization operates under the motto "People. Not Party." and has chapters across the country.
Hart said in the release that he credits community partners for making the work possible. He said the best results come from looking beyond political differences and finding common ground.
Before becoming village president, Hart served on the DuPage County Board, where he co-chaired the Heroin-Opioid Prevention and Education (HOPE) Task Force. He was the youngest village president since Hinsdale's incorporation in 1873 when he took office.
Hart wrote on X that he was "honored to be named Mayor of the Year" by the organization, which he described as having "more than 50 years of history."
No village statement on the award has been posted to the Village of Hinsdale's website as of Oct. 27.
