Hinsdale South's Hornets claimed the Class 1A girls tennis sectional championship Saturday, Oct. 17, edging Lemont by a single point.

The margin: one point. The Hornets scored 18 to Lemont's 17 at the Hinsdale South Sectional, according to Shaw Local. The doubles team of Teodora Savic and Addy Filipiak capped the day with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over Aurora Central Catholic's Ria Murauskas and Cecelia Maysonet in the doubles finale.

Filipiak won the Class 1A singles state title as a sophomore in October 2025, according to Shaw Local's state tournament coverage. She and Savic paired for doubles at the sectional, and the duo's shutout helped lock down the narrow team victory.

The Savic-Filipiak doubles team advances to the IHSA state tournament.

Head coach Jim Westphal's Hinsdale Central boys squad entered the season coming off a third-place conference finish, a regional title and a 13th-place state showing in 2025, according to The Hinsdalean. In an August preseason preview, Westphal said the team's goal was straightforward: "You never really want to put a specific finishing position as a goal but just go and compete to your ability, and the result kind of takes care of itself."
