The Hinsdale Public Library hosts a Moon Festival on Sunday, Sept. 27, the first of seven local fall events stretching through late October.

The Mid-Autumn Festival celebration runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at 20 E. Maple St., with crafts, performances, food and face-painting. The Hinsdale Multicultural Arts & Education Association, which organizes the event, said this year's festival is part of Hinsdale's America 250 programming.

The full lineup of fall events was compiled by The Hinsdalean's Fallapalooza guide and supplemented by Village of Hinsdale listings.

The library also has two October programs worth marking. Performer Lorrisa Julianus presents "Morbid History" on Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 7 to 8 p.m., covering true tales spanning medieval Venice to Lincoln Park. Registration is required. On Wednesday, Oct. 28, presenter William Pack draws on Edgar Allan Poe, Ray Bradbury, M.R. James and Shirley Jackson for "The Haunted Page" from 7 to 8 p.m. Registration is required. The library's Boo Bash, a Halloween-themed games and crafts hour for kids, runs from 4 to 5 p.m. the same day. Costumes are encouraged.

Over at Katherine Legge Memorial Park, 5901 S. County Line Road, the Hinsdale Historical Society's Junior Board hosts Pumpkin Decorating at the Zook Studio on Sunday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event costs $10 per person and includes autumn snacks. Registration is available at hinsdalehistory.org.

The Community House, 415 W. Eighth St., opens its doors for A Haunting at TCH on Friday, Oct. 23, from 5 to 9 p.m. The evening includes a haunted house recommended for ages 8 and older, plus a Halloween party with games and crafts. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Cost is $15, and registration is required.

The largest event on the calendar is the Hinsdale Fall Family Fest on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hinsdale Middle School, 100 S. Garfield Ave. The free festival is hosted by the Village of Hinsdale in partnership with the Hinsdale Public Library, Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce, The Community House and The Hinsdalean. It features inflatables, food trucks, crafts and entertainment. The first 500 participants take home a pumpkin. A costume contest runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce table, and trick-or-treating at participating downtown businesses runs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Two nearby DuPage County Forest Preserve District events round out the options. The Danada Fall Festival returns Saturday, Oct. 10, and Sunday, Oct. 11, at Danada Equestrian Center in Wheaton from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with equestrian performances, wagon rides and barn tours. Admission is free, with small fees for some activities. The district's Pumpkin Night Hike at Fullersburg Woods in Oak Brook on Friday, Oct. 16 and Saturday, Oct. 17, runs from 5:30 to 9 p.m. and costs $10. It is free for ages 2 and younger. Registration is required.
