Hinsdale Central High School's Fieldhouse will fill with music, dancing and the smell of food Friday evening when the school's South Asian Student Union (SASU) hosts its annual Diwali and Garba celebration.
The event runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, according to District 86's Facebook page. It is open to the entire community.
Garba is a traditional dance form originating in the Indian state of Gujarat, performed in circles during the Hindu festival of Diwali and the nine-night celebration of Navratri. The evening will feature dancing, music, food and henna stations, according to the event announcement on X.
Admission is $5 per person. Hinsdale Central students, children under 2 and seniors get in free.
The SASU, a student club that meets Mondays after school in Room 2222, organized the celebration. Hinsdale Central's Facebook page described the event as the group's "annual Garba and Diwali celebration." The club's Instagram account shows Garba event highlights dating back to November 2023.
Hinsdale Central is located at 5500 S. Grant St. in Hinsdale. The Fieldhouse entrance faces the south parking lot.
