Free pink light bulbs are coming to the Cancer Institute at 1 Salt Creek Lane in Hinsdale this October.

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth is launching a "Light Your Porch Pink" campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which begins Thursday, Oct. 1. Anyone who schedules or completes a mammogram through the health system can pick up a free bulb at six suburban locations, including the Hinsdale site, according to Shaw Local. The idea is simple: screw in the bulb, light your porch and remind your neighbors to get screened.

Bulbs are available while supplies last.

No end date for the offer has been announced. Appointments can be booked at PinkPorchIL.com or by calling 833-246-6740.

The Hinsdale Cancer Institute is one of six pickup sites. Others are in Westmont, Woodridge, Bolingbrook, Plainfield and Glendale Heights. All six breast imaging centers hold Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designations from the American College of Radiology (ACR), according to the campaign's landing page. The Cancer Institute also carries accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and the Commission on Cancer.

The landing page lists ACR screening guidelines: annual mammograms starting at age 40 and clinical breast exams every one to three years beginning at age 25. Those at higher-than-average risk should discuss earlier screening with their provider.

Dr. Cristina O'Donoghue, a surgical oncologist with UChicago Medicine and AdventHealth, stressed the value of early detection in a June 2026 interview with The Hinsdalean. She described a patient whose sub-centimeter breast cancer was caught on an MRI, enabling surgery at an early stage.

"It's not uncommon that events like these spark conversations about getting screened or going to see their doctor," O'Donoghue told The Hinsdalean in June.

The campaign builds on a broader year of breast cancer outreach in the west suburbs. The Oak Brook Park District's annual Pink 5K raised over $28,000 on May 9 for the Hinsdale Hospital Foundation's Open Arms Breast Cancer Outreach Fund, which provides free mammograms to women facing gaps in insurance coverage. Every $250 raised covers one screening.
