Hinsdale's oldest playground is getting replaced.

Village Board trustees on Tuesday, Sept. 15, agreed to spend $194,176 on new equipment at Dietz Park, moving the project toward a final vote on Oct. 6, The Hinsdalean reported. The 21-year-old playground, installed in 2005, is the oldest of the village's 11 playgrounds and had drawn continued community feedback about its condition, according to the village's agenda packet.

The new playground will include climbing walls, bridges, side-by-side slides, a saucer swing and a caterpillar climber. The project also covers drainage improvements and fiber mulch surfacing. The equipment comes from GameTime at a cost not to exceed $194,175.69, under the village's $200,000 budget.

Trustee Michelle Fisher told Patch on Sept. 16 that the design "combines traditional playground elements with more challenging ninja adventure-style features."

The village plans to install the equipment in early 2027.

Fisher also reported that the Robbins Park playground renovation is nearing completion, with a new tree house being built and work expected to finish by the first week of October.

Emergency IT purchase approved

Trustees also waived a first reading and gave final approval to an emergency purchase not to exceed $48,450 from Orbis Solutions Inc. of Aurora to replace the village's storage area network, or SAN. Staff classified the item as emergency business, though the agenda packet did not detail what triggered the urgent replacement.

Toni Patisserie & Café liquor licenses advance

In other business, trustees supported expanding liquor licenses for Toni Patisserie & Café at 51 S. Washington St. under new owners Craig Zoberis, Tom Wake and Mark Konieczka. The restaurant previously held a license permitting beer and wine service during lunch and dinner hours only. The new licenses would allow packaged sales of wine, champagne and beer, plus spirits service with planned dinner hours. That vote is also scheduled for Oct. 6.

The board also swore in Matt Cochran as the newest member of the Hinsdale Fire Department. Cochran has four years of experience and completed his training and associate's degree at the College of DuPage. He is enrolled in Loyola University Medical Center's paramedic program.
