The Love Like Sean Foundation hosts its third annual Family Run 5K and Kids Dash on Sunday, Nov. 1, at Robbins Park in Hinsdale.
The event honors Sean Richards, a 14-year-old Hinsdale boy who had just finished middle school at St. Isaac Jogues when he died in the summer of 2023. All proceeds go to support children and families in the local community during the holidays, according to the event's registration page. The money flows through the Love Like Sean Foundation and St. Isaac Jogues' Community Outreach Programs.
The race is open to all ages and paces. The 5K run/walk starts at 9 a.m. The Kids Dash follows at 10 a.m. Registration and packet pickup open at 7:30 a.m. Entry costs $40 for adults and $25 for ages 12 and younger for the 5K. The Kids Dash is $15. An awards ceremony and raffle drawing follow the races.
Sean's former classmates are helping lead the effort. Three St. Isaac Jogues graduates now serve as charter members of the foundation's junior board, The Hinsdalean reported. Miles Johnson, Maddie Brennan and Mairin Sweeney are high school seniors, just as Sean would have been.
"Sean was a person who helped connect people, so I think that's a nice thing about the foundation," Johnson told The Hinsdalean.
The board has about a dozen members. After the race, they plan to purchase turkeys and fresh pies for clients of organizations including HCS Family Services. Johnson recalled running alongside Sean as teammates on the St. Isaac Jogues cross country team at Robbins Park.
Registration is available at llsrace.com.
