Hinsdale seniors looking for straight answers on Medicare, energy savings, or consumer fraud can get all three under one roof Wednesday morning, no appointment needed.
The Active Senior Expo opens at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the Darien Sportsplex, 451 Plainfield Road, roughly a 10-minute drive from downtown Hinsdale. The event runs until 2 p.m. and costs $2 at the door, though free admission coupons are available at local retailers and can be downloaded at activeseniorexpo.net, according to the event listing on Patch.
No registration is required.
Three free seminars
The expo's centerpiece is a trio of educational sessions:
- 10 a.m. — "Understanding Medicare," presented by Ma3 Insurance Group, Inc.
- 11 a.m. — "Saving Money and Energy," presented by the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program
- Noon — "Tips to Prevent Consumer Fraud," presented by the Illinois Attorney General's office
The Medicare session lands ahead of the fall open-enrollment period that begins Oct. 15.

Beyond the seminars, the expo features free health screenings, door prize drawings, and live music starting at 11:30 a.m. Exhibitors span healthcare providers, retirement communities, assisted living, financial and insurance services, legal and estate planning, home care, and government programs.
The event is produced by Silver Star Expositions, a Lombard-based company that has staged more than 180 senior-focused expos across Chicagoland, drawing over half a million attendees to date. Major sponsors include the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program and BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois.
Getting there
Visitors coming from the east (including Hinsdale) should use the 75th Street entrance to the Sportsplex. Those arriving from the west should use the Plainfield Road entrance. Free parking is available on-site.
