Willowbrook Mayor Frank Trilla hosted his sixth annual car wash fundraiser for kidney health on Saturday, Oct. 17.
The Trilla family organized the event at King Car Wash in Westmont, with all proceeds benefiting the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois (NKFI), a Chicago-based nonprofit founded in 1949. Trilla promoted the day on social media, calling it "Kidney Day at King Car Wash" and telling followers that if they needed a clean car, "your money to go directly to the NKFI." A silent auction also ran alongside the car wash, closing at 8 p.m.
The fundraiser drew elected officials from across the area. Hinsdale Village President Greg Hart visited and wrote on X that the Trilla family's effort was "a wonderful example of how families …" come together for a cause. Hart called Trilla a friend and praised the family's persistence in organizing the event six years running.
Gary Grasso also stopped by Saturday and posted on X that he was at King Car Wash "supporting the Trilla family's 6th Annual Car Wash for Kidney Health." Grasso wrote that 100% of car wash proceeds went to the foundation, though his post was cut short before specifying the full details.
The Trilla family has run the fundraiser every year since 2021, building it into a recurring community tradition at the Westmont car wash. No total fundraising figures from the Oct. 17 event have been released.
The NKFI provides education and support for people living with kidney disease and operates a mobile screening unit called the KidneyMobile that offers free screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease.
