Hinsdale Central High School's Student Council will host a Halloween-themed mahjong night on Monday, Oct. 26, to raise money for class prom accounts.
The event, called "Monster Maj," runs from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Student Cafe at Hinsdale Central, 5500 S. Grant St. It is open to students, staff, parents, family members and community members, according to the event listing on the Hinsdale Central PTO website.
No mahjong experience is required. Organizers said they will help attendees find a table, and players can come solo or with a group.
The evening includes a costume contest with prizes for individuals and groups, Halloween decorations, and refreshments. Baked goods will be available for purchase separately.
Registration fees go directly into class prom accounts. Each graduating class at Hinsdale Central builds its account over four years to offset the cost of prom tickets. District 86 maintains per-class student activity accounts at the school, according to a board report presented in August 2025.
The fundraiser is one way the school's roughly 2,445 students across grades 9 through 12 can chip in toward prom costs before their senior year. The Student Council posted the announcement on Oct. 13.
Sally Phillip, Hinsdale Central's director of student activities, and Kristen Bronke are listed as event contacts. Questions can be directed to Phillip through the school at [email protected].
Registration is open at omella.com/219ny. The costume contest begins when doors open at 6 p.m.
