Hinsdale families planning their Halloween routes have a recommended time window to work with: 3 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31.
Village President Greg Hart said on X on Friday, Oct. 16, that the village has fielded numerous questions about trick-or-treating hours this year, with Halloween falling on a Saturday.
The village does not regulate trick-or-treating hours, Hart noted. The 3–8 p.m. window is a recommendation, not an ordinance. Hart also asked drivers to be mindful of pedestrians.
Fall festival returns a week before Halloween
A week before trick-or-treating, Hinsdale's annual Family Fall Festival returns Saturday, Oct. 24, at Hinsdale Middle School and downtown Hinsdale.
The event is free.
It dates back to 1982 and typically draws more than 500 people, Mike Hayes, Hinsdale's parks and recreation superintendent, told the Chicago Tribune. Hayes said the festival "has changed quite a bit over the years, while maintaining its focus on bringing the community together for a fun, family-friendly Halloween celebration."
Activities at the school include inflatables, crafts, entertainment and food. The first 500 people can pick up a free pumpkin. A costume contest runs 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with check-in at the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce table.
Downtown businesses will host trick-or-treating during the same 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. hours, giving families a chance to hit both the school festivities and the Washington Street corridor in one trip.
Parking is available in the downtown parking garage. The main entrance at Hinsdale Middle School is on the south side of the building, 100 S. Garfield Ave.
