Hinsdale's Memorial Building will be lit up for Hinsdale Central High School's Homecoming on Tuesday, Sept. 15, opening a week of events across the village.
The Village of Hinsdale is hosting a lighting ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on the Memorial Building plaza at 19 E. Chicago Ave. The building will wear red and white for the occasion, The Hinsdalean reported.
The Colonial Revival structure was designed by Chicago architect Edwin H. Clarke and built in 1927. It was designated a local landmark in 2001 and is classified as a Contributing Structure in the Downtown Hinsdale Historic District under the 2006 National Register of Historic Places nomination.
The building houses the Hinsdale Public Library, HCS Family Services and the American Legion.
The plaza has hosted other village ceremonies this year. A Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony marking 25 years since the Sept. 11 attacks drew residents to the same spot on Friday, Sept. 11. Village President Greg Hart said on X that he joined hundreds of residents on the Memorial Building's front lawn on May 25 for a Memorial Day ceremony, noting that the names of Hinsdale residents who gave their lives in military service are inscribed inside the building.
The lighting ceremony leads into a full Homecoming Week schedule. The football game is set for Friday, Sept. 18, at Dickinson Field. The Homecoming parade follows at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, heading through downtown, as we reported Sept. 11.
Also on Sept. 19, the Hinsdale Historical Society is opening the Ruth & Roger Anderson Archives at Immanuel Hall, 302 S. Grant St., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
