Hinsdale property owners will get their first look at the library's 2027 budget and tax levy request when the library board meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22.

The Hinsdale Public Library Board of Trustees will gather at the library, 20 E. Maple St. The draft agenda also includes reviews of the library's computer and internet use policy and a new Payment Card Industry security policy governing how the library handles credit and debit card transactions, according to The Hinsdalean's weekly agenda.

The library board has not yet released proposed 2027 budget or levy figures. For context, the library's most recent confirmed levy was $3,989,656 for 2025, a 3.87% increase over the 2024 extended levy of $3,840,845, according to Village Board records from October 2025.

That number matters. Property taxes fund about 98% of the library's budget. Village President Greg Hart underscored that dependence at the Nov. 4, 2025, Village Board meeting, saying property taxes "fund roughly 40% of the Village's General Fund and 98% of the Library's budget," according to meeting minutes.

The budget review comes as the library works through a renovation that has reshaped daily operations at the Maple Street building. In June, the board unanimously approved roughly $416,849 in furniture, shelving and equipment for the project, including $197,733 from Continua and $181,170 from Bradford Systems for new shelving, according to June 23 board minutes.

Board President John Bloomfield praised staff at the June 23 meeting, saying they "have responded positively to the changes and have maintained an enthusiastic attitude, which has had a positive effect on patrons."

The library's Committee of the Whole met Wednesday, Sept. 16, though no minutes or agenda from that session have been posted on the library's board meetings page. The next regular board meeting after Tuesday is scheduled for Oct. 27.
