Hinsdale Central faces its toughest Silver Brick Game test in years when undefeated Lyons Township visits Wednesday, Oct. 7.
The Lions (13-0-1) claimed the BodyArmor Tournament championship on Sunday, Oct. 4, shutting out St. Laurence 3-0 at Lyons Soccer Complex in LaGrange. St. Laurence entered the final ranked No. 1 in Illinois and No. 3 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches poll, according to Shaw Local. No team had shut out the Vikings all season.
Senior defender Harrison Kittridge broke the deadlock. He finished a rebound at the 33:57 mark of the first half, then headed in a Rocco King corner kick at 15:15 of the second half. Both were his first goals this season. Senior forward Julian Avdiu capped the scoring with 2:42 left, volleying home a pass from senior forward Cormac Moran, according to Southwest Regional Publishing.
LT's all-senior back line of Kittridge, Owen Kachmarik and Ari Chen held a St. Laurence attack that had scored 60 goals on the season to zero. Through 14 games, the Lions have allowed just seven goals and recorded seven shutouts.
"The win feels great but it really doesn't change anything for sectionals because that game will be on turf," Kittridge told Shaw Local on Oct. 5. "It will be a different game. But this is definitely a confidence boost for us."
That sectional looms large. LT and St. Laurence are seeded first and second at the Class 3A Reavis Sectional and could meet again in the postseason.
First, the rivalry. The Silver Brick Game is a West Suburban Conference Silver Division fixture dating to 1975. LT led the all-time series 34-32-4 after beating Hinsdale Central 3-0 at Bennett Stadium in Western Springs last October, snapping a three-match Red Devils winning streak in the series.
After that 2025 win, Lions coach Paul Labbato called it "a traditional Lyons-Hinsdale game" and praised the Red Devils' competitiveness, telling Chicagoland Soccer he was pleased with how his team attacked throughout.
Red Devils head coach Mike Wiggins, who has led the program since 2002, had 437 career victories as of October 2025, ranking among the top 10 all-time in Illinois High School Association (IHSA) history.
Wednesday's matchup carries higher stakes. LT has not lost all season, and a win would strengthen the Lions' case as a state-title contender heading into the playoffs.
Kickoff time and venue for Wednesday's Silver Brick Game had not been confirmed as of Monday, Oct. 5.
