Suspects caught on surveillance video rummaged through unlocked cars in three Hinsdale neighborhoods on a single overnight stretch, and a suspected drug-impaired driver crashed at one of the village's busiest intersections days later.

The Hinsdale Police Department reported Tuesday, June 16, that unknown suspects entered unlocked vehicles between 8:30 p.m. June 9 and the following morning in the 900 block of South Park Avenue, the 5700 block of South Garfield Avenue, and the 400 block of East Eighth Street. No forced entry was involved. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been identified beyond what surveillance footage captured.

The department continues to advise residents to lock vehicles and remove key fobs overnight.

Crash at County Line and Ogden leads to blood-draw warrant

Officers responded to a property-damage crash at 7:21 p.m. Friday, June 12, at County Line Road and Ogden Avenue. The driver showed signs of drug impairment and refused a breath test. Officers obtained a search warrant for a blood draw.

No injuries were reported. The suspect was released, and charges are pending lab results. The suspect's name, age, and municipality have not been released. No charges had been filed as of the June 16 report date.

Two fleeing-officer arrests

A 32-year-old Ottawa woman was arrested at 9:55 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, after fleeing a traffic stop at Route 83 and Ogden Avenue. Villa Park police stopped her in the 300 block of Roosevelt Road. She was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, no valid registration, driver's license classification violation, operating an uninsured vehicle, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. She was released to appear in court.

On Sunday, June 7, a 16-year-old Palos Park boy was arrested at 12:50 p.m. at 55th Street and Garfield Avenue after police responded to a complaint about a group of kids riding dirt bikes. He was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, driver's license classification violation, no valid registration, operating an uninsured vehicle, and disobeying a stop sign. He was cited and released to a parent.

Hinsdale public safety week ahead

Friday, June 19, through Monday, July 6 — Hinsdale police July Fourth traffic enforcement campaign. Officers are conducting increased patrols focused on impaired and unbuckled drivers alongside the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local departments statewide. "If you're driving, don't drink or use cannabis or other impairing substances," Deputy Chief Thomas Lillie said. "Our officers will be working diligently to keep impaired drivers off the road and ensure everyone is buckled up."
