A Burr Ridge man was charged with impersonating a federal agent and illegally possessing a firearm after a routine traffic stop in Frankfort.

Edward Kajmowicz, 46, faces charges of impersonating a public officer and unlawful possession of weapons after the Oct. 19 stop, the Frankfort Police Department said in a news release, as reported by Patch.

Frankfort officers pulled Kajmowicz over for a traffic violation near the intersection of La Grange Road and Lincoln-Way Lane on Monday, Oct. 19. During the stop, he identified himself as a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent and presented credentials, according to police.

Those credentials were later confirmed to be fraudulent.

Officers also found Kajmowicz in possession of a semi-automatic firearm at the time of his arrest, police said. His Illinois Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card had previously been revoked. The reason for the revocation has not been disclosed.

Frankfort police worked with DEA officials to verify Kajmowicz's claimed employment, according to Fox 32 Chicago. The investigation confirmed he has never worked for the federal agency.

No attorney for Kajmowicz was identified in available reports. No response from Kajmowicz or a representative appears in public records as of publication.

Kajmowicz is scheduled to appear in Will County Circuit Court on Nov. 9.
