Hinsdale Central midfielder Ryan Keenan earned Athlete of the Week for the boys soccer team after anchoring the midfield in three games last week.

The team announced the honor on Tuesday, Sept. 1, saying Keenan controlled the center midfield in every game he played and calling him a huge part of the Red Devils' early season success.

One of those three contests was a 4-0 shutout. Hinsdale Central routed Neuqua Valley on Monday, Aug. 31, at the Tournament of Champions, according to Chicago Tribune scores.

The strong week is an early sign of life for a program working to bounce back. The Red Devils went 8-13-2 last season and went winless in West Suburban Silver Division play, finishing seventh in the conference. That slide came after the program earned a third-place state finish just two years earlier.

Head coach Michael Wiggins is now in his 25th season leading the Red Devils. He has 13 returning players and 12 newcomers on the 2026 roster, a mix he praised before the season began.

"A competitive group that shows up with energy and enthusiasm everyday makes this year's team a great one to work with," Wiggins said in the Daily Herald's Aug. 18 season preview.

Among the top returners are junior midfielder George An, junior forwards Kristof Dani and Alex Griebenow, and senior defender Arhaan Saini. Sophomore forward Caio Davies is a key newcomer on the preseason watch list.

Keenan's name did not appear on those preseason rosters of players to watch, which makes his early midfield dominance all the more notable for Hinsdale Central fans tracking the rebuild.

The Red Devils' 4-0 rout of Neuqua Valley marked one of the more convincing results of the young season across the West Suburban Silver.
