Hinsdale voters will pick a new DuPage County sheriff, weigh in on contested state legislative races and decide a mental health board referendum on the Nov. 3 ballot.
Online voter registration closes Sunday, Oct. 18. After that date, residents can still register in person at the county clerk's office, a permanent early voting site or their polling place on Election Day with two forms of ID, one showing a current address.
Key local races
State Sen. Suzy Glowiak Hilton, a Democrat who has held the 23rd District seat since 2019, faces Republican Linda Polacek. In the 45th House District, Democratic Rep. Marti Deuter faces Republican Gina Parrilli. Deuter, who served nearly 12 years on the Elmhurst City Council, won the seat two years ago.
The Republican Party has pulled back financial support from both districts, Patch reported, essentially ceding the territory to Democrats.
For DuPage County sheriff, Democrat Peter Coolidge, a retired officer with nearly 30 years in the sheriff's office, faces Republican Sean Noonan, an Oakbrook Terrace police officer and former DuPage County Board member. They are running to succeed Sheriff James Mendrick, who did not seek a third term and instead ran unsuccessfully for the Republican gubernatorial nomination.
In the 6th Congressional District, Democratic Rep. Sean Casten faces Republican Niki Conforti. Casten has far outraised her, according to Patch.
Statewide races
Every Hinsdale ballot will include the U.S. Senate race between Democrat Juliana Stratton and Republican Don Tracy for the seat Sen. Dick Durbin is vacating. The governor's race is a rematch: Gov. JB Pritzker, with running mate Christian Mitchell, faces Republican Darren Bailey and running mate Aaron B. Del Mar. Pritzker defeated Bailey in 2022, according to the Illinois voter guide from Patch.
Other statewide contests: Attorney General Kwame Raoul (D) vs. Bob Fioretti (R), Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias (D) vs. Diane Harris (R), Comptroller Margaret Croke (D) vs. Bryan Drew (R) and Treasurer Michael Frerichs (D) vs. Max Solomon (R).
Ballot questions
Hinsdale voters in Downers Grove Township will see a referendum to establish a 708 Community Mental Health Board. Downers Grove Township is the only one of nine DuPage County townships without an active 708 board, according to The Hinsdalean.
Cook County residents in Hinsdale will see an advisory question on the "Millionaire Amendment," a proposed 3 percent income tax surcharge on millionaires. Half the revenue would go toward property tax relief and half toward public education funding.
