Someone broke into five vehicles parked in driveways across a Darien neighborhood overnight Oct. 8 into Oct. 9. One victim learned of the break-in only after her bank flagged an attempted charge on her stolen debit card.
The Darien Police Department reported the burglaries in a press release on Thursday, Oct. 15. The incidents spanned three addresses within blocks of each other: the 7000 block of Exner Road, the 1500 block of Sequoia Lane and the 1600 block of 71st Street.
The Exner Road resident discovered the break-in only after her bank alerted her that someone was trying to use her debit card, according to the press release. She checked her car in the driveway and found the center console open and papers scattered across the front seat. Police classified the incident as a theft from motor vehicle.
A few blocks away on Sequoia Lane, a resident reported that three vehicles in the driveway had been entered overnight. Police said the cars were gone through, but nothing was taken.
On 71st Street, a vehicle was entered between 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, and 5:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9. The glove box and center console had been rifled through and contents scattered across the front seat. Nothing was taken.
Police classified the Sequoia Lane and 71st Street incidents as criminal trespass to motor vehicle.
