A Darien police officer helped end a high-speed chase spanning three suburbs Oct. 2 after the suspect allegedly rammed the officer's squad car.

Laron Robinson, 19, of the 7700 block of Deer Street in Woodridge, faces three felony counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding, one count of criminal damage to government-supported property and more than 30 misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses, the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office said.

A judge ordered Robinson held in the DuPage County Jail until trial.

The chase began about 7:58 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, when a Woodridge police officer saw Robinson's white Kia sedan change lanes and turn simultaneously on Woodward Avenue, according to Patch. The officer followed the Kia into a residential area on Cambridge Road and activated emergency lights at Concord Drive and Pioneer Avenue.

Robinson allegedly sped away on Concord Drive, running stop signs at Stonewall Avenue and Springside Avenue, Shaw Local reported. The Woodridge officer lost sight of the Kia after it turned south onto Springside Avenue.

Two hit-and-run crashes followed. About 8:04 p.m., the white Kia struck another vehicle at Devereux Road and 75th Street and fled. About 10 minutes later, the same Kia allegedly hit a Ford pickup truck at Lemont Road and Woodmere Drive. Whether anyone in either vehicle was injured has not been confirmed.

At 8:42 p.m., a Darien police officer spotted the Kia in the 8000 block of Windsor Drive. Robinson allegedly sped away, reaching 50 mph in a 25-mph zone, prosecutors said.

Robinson then allegedly drove head-on toward the Darien officer, passed on the wrong side of the road and veered into oncoming traffic on Lemont Road near Lyman Avenue and Manning Road, reaching about 70 mph in a 45-mph zone, according to prosecutors.

The chase ended in a driveway in the 900 block of Rob Roy Place in Downers Grove. The Darien officer pulled in behind the Kia to block it. Robinson allegedly backed into the squad car, then drove forward into bushes, where the vehicle got stuck. He was arrested. The Darien officer's name has not been released.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin called the allegations "outrageous" in a statement reported by Shaw Local on Oct. 5. "What I find particularly disturbing is the allegation that once he was boxed in, Mr. Robinson refused to give up and was only into custody when his car got stuck after he crashed into an officer's squad car," Berlin said.

Robinson's next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 2.
