A Clarendon Hills resident lost money in a wire-transfer fraud after sending funds to someone posing as a title company representative. The Clarendon Hills Police Department documented the case in its Oct. 16 weekly activity report.

The victim met with officers at the police station on Oct. 9 after discovering the scheme. The victim had been asked to wire money to a person they believed worked for a legitimate title company. After the transfer went through, the victim learned it was fraudulent. The department said further investigation is pending.

The fraud is the second reported in Clarendon Hills in as many weeks. The department's Oct. 9 weekly report documented a separate case in which a resident's American Airlines account was hacked and approximately $2,000 in gift cards were purchased using the account's reward points. That case also remains under investigation.

Chief Edward Leinweber's Oct. 16 report to Village Manager Paul Dalen also logged three traffic stops between Oct. 9 and Oct. 13 in which drivers were cited for operating vehicles without valid licenses.

On Oct. 9 at 12:15 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle on Ogden Avenue near Stonegate for a registration violation. The driver was found to have a suspended license and no proof of insurance. Officers issued citations for no valid registration, operating an uninsured vehicle and driving on a suspended license, along with a mandatory court date. The vehicle was towed.

On Oct. 11 at 2:02 a.m., a driver heading southbound on Route 83 near Burlington Avenue was pulled over for speeding. Officers discovered the driver's license was suspended. The driver was cited for speeding and driving on a suspended license and given a mandatory court date. A licensed passenger took control of the insured vehicle.

On Oct. 13 at 7:13 p.m., officers stopped a speeding vehicle on 55th Street near Tennessee Avenue. The driver had never been issued a valid license and could not provide insurance. Citations for speeding, no valid license and operating an uninsured vehicle were issued, along with a mandatory court date. That vehicle was also towed.

The report noted the village's seventh annual Witches Ride, a community cycling event in which participants dress in witch costumes and ride through Clarendon Hills streets, was scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, at approximately 4 p.m. The department noted weather was expected to be brisk but clear.

The village's 2026 Farmer's Market also wrapped up its final week, according to the report.
