Two Hinsdale teenagers have earned $2,500 National Merit Scholarships, placing them among approximately 2,500 winners nationwide selected from more than 1.3 million entrants in the 71st annual competition.

Yazmin Crisostomo, a Hinsdale Central High School student, plans to study biology on a pre-med track at Boston College in the fall. Kathleen Krasnewich, who attends St. Ignatius College Preparatory School in Chicago, plans to study engineering at Vanderbilt University. Both are Hinsdale residents.

Two other District 86 students were also honored: Emmie Guo of Oak Brook, a Hinsdale Central student who intends to pursue medicine, and Joshi Rishikesh of Burr Ridge, a Hinsdale South High School student planning to study chemistry.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the $2,500 scholarship winners on May 13. Winners are selected from roughly 16,000 semifinalists who took the PSAT/NMSQT as juniors in October 2024, evaluated on academic records, test scores, extracurriculars, essays, and school recommendations.

Four District 86 scholars out of the district's approximately 4,300 students earned the distinction this year.
