Medinah Road northbound shut down Monday, Sept. 21, and will stay closed through Sunday, Sept. 27, as Medinah Country Club hosts the Presidents Cup golf tournament.

The DuPage County Sheriff's Office posted a traffic advisory warning motorists to avoid Medinah Road entirely and plan alternate routes. The road is set to reopen Monday, Sept. 28.

The closed segment stretches from Irving Park Road to Lake Street, according to the Roselle Police Department, which echoed the sheriff's office advisory.

The sheriff's office did not publish a named detour route.

The Presidents Cup is a biennial PGA Tour team event pitting a U.S. squad against an International team. It runs Tuesday, Sept. 22, through Sunday, Sept. 27, at Medinah Country Club's Course No. 3 in Medinah, about 15 miles northwest of Hinsdale. Competition rounds begin Thursday, Sept. 24.

Hinsdale residents who commute northwest toward I-390, O'Hare International Airport, or Itasca should expect delays well beyond the closed stretch. The sheriff's office warned that heavy traffic is expected across the surrounding area for the full closure period.

Three general parking lots are set up for tournament-goers: a lot at 225 Windsor Ave. in Itasca, one at 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn, and one at 251 N. Martingale Rd. in Schaumburg. Shuttle rides from those lots to the course run 10 to 20 minutes, according to Chicago Golf Report. Parking passes start at $17 plus taxes and fees and must be reserved in advance. No passes are available on-site.

Fans can also take Metra's Milwaukee District West Line from Chicago Union Station to Medinah Station, where complimentary shuttle service runs to the course's west entrance Tuesday, Sept. 22, through Sunday, Sept. 27.
