Hinsdale Public Library trustees will get their first formal look at the library's fiscal year 2027 spending plan Tuesday night, setting the stage for budget decisions that will eventually land on property tax bills across the village.

The board meets at 7 p.m. Aug. 25 in the Community Meeting Room at 20 E. Maple St. The 2027 preliminary budget review is listed as an information item on the meeting agenda, meaning trustees will hear a presentation but won't vote on spending figures yet.

The stakes are real. Property taxes fund roughly 98% of the library's budget, according to remarks Village President Greg Hart made at the Nov. 4, 2025, Village Board meeting. The library's current levy stands at an estimated $3,989,656, a 3.87% increase over the prior year's $3,840,845, according to village budget documents. No line-item details for the 2027 plan have been made public ahead of Tuesday's meeting.

Trustees will also vote on an update to the Disposal of Library Property Policy. The agenda does not describe what the update changes. The policy governs how the library handles surplus materials and equipment, and the Committee of the Whole discussed the update at its Aug. 19 session ahead of Tuesday's action vote.

A third action item asks trustees to approve trustee expenses. Board President John Bloomfield will report on his attendance at the American Library Association conference.

Executive Director Karen Kleckner Keefe leads the seven-member board's operations. Trustees approved a salary increase for Keefe to $165,000 annually, plus a $1,250 educational allowance, at the April 27 meeting. How that compensation fits into the broader 2027 budget picture may become clearer Tuesday.
