The DuPage County court system that handles Hinsdale criminal and civil cases will get a new disaster recovery backup, and the county Coroner's Office will add a deputy, after the Judicial and Public Safety Committee approved both measures on Tuesday, June 16.
The committee greenlit a five-year, $1.71 million contract with Logicalis, Inc. to provide disaster recovery infrastructure for the Clerk of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court. Kevin Vaske, who presented the item to the committee, described the contract as "infrastructure to run the court system remotely in the event of a disaster" in response to a question from committee member Dawn DeSart. The contract runs from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2031, and was procured through a national cooperative purchasing agreement rather than competitive bid.
The committee also approved a new full-time deputy coroner position, along with an $8,500 budget transfer to cover salary, benefits, and potential overtime. The hire drew what the minutes describe as a "lengthy discussion" about high staff turnover. Data provided by the Coroner's Office showed no significant increase in caseload. The committee recommended that Coroner Lukas or a representative attend future meetings in person.
Committee Chair Evans opened the meeting by noting that severe storms in Naperville and Lisle the week of June 9–11 caused no serious injuries in DuPage County. She thanked the county's Department of Transportation, Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and GIS department for their response. The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-0 tornado touched down in Naperville on Thursday, June 11, near Gartner Road and Oleson Drive, with peak winds of 80 mph and a 1.3-mile path into Lisle. No injuries or building damage were reported.
Both the Logicalis contract and the coroner position were sent to the Finance Committee and are scheduled for full County Board consideration on Tuesday, June 23.
