Two hundred seventy-seven Hinsdale Middle School eighth graders crossed the stage on Friday, May 29, closing their District 181 chapter and stepping toward their freshman year at Hinsdale Central High School or Hinsdale South High School.

Families, friends, and staff filled the ceremony to cheer on the Class of 2026 as they received diplomas and awards.

Board President Grace Shin, who was elected unanimously to lead the District 181 board in April, delivered the commencement address. She told graduates that "values like kindness, respect, and integrity are the true compasses that will guide them through life," framing character as more important than academic credentials.

Principal Cory Burke presented awards and wished the class well in their next steps.

The HMS Jazz Band closed the ceremony with Stevie Wonder's "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing," directed by music director George Andrikokus.

The graduates head next to District 86, where incoming Superintendent Dr. Chip Pettit starts Wednesday, July 1. The Thursday, June 25 board meeting will be the last regular session before his arrival.

This is the last regular meeting before incoming Superintendent Dr. Chip Pettit officially joins the district on July 1. No published agenda is available as of June 24.
